Labia Minora Reduction Surgery

A Labiaplasty, or a Labia reduction, is surgery to correct and define the appearance of the inner labia, also known as the labia minora. Labia reduction or reshaping is performed under general anaesthetic or local anaesthetic and sedation (twilight) and care is taken to keep results as natural as possible. This surgery can be performed for aesthetic purposes or for medical purposes, such as an infection or continuing soreness of the area.

Introduction to Labia Minora Reduction Surgery

The labia is the smaller, inner folds of the vagina. If you Labia Minora are larger than average they may protrude past the outer labia.

Why consider vaginal surgery

It is very common for women to feel embarrassed if they have larger than average labia minora as this will affect self esteem and how you feel about yourself. Labia comes in all shapes and sizes and it is perfectly natural for your labia minora to be larger than average. However, this may effect your relationships and dating life. Feeling less than confident in the bedroom can impact on your relationships in a negative way; if you feel insecure during intimate times, it may mean that you avoid having sexual intercourse completely.

Insecurities can also mean that you are not completely satisfied, leaving both you and your partner feeling unfulfilled and uncomfortable. For some women the labia minora may be visible through clothing such as leggings or swimwear and may chafe on everyday underwear. This procedure will help you gain confidence, leaving you feeling attractive and boost your self esteem!

Who is the best candidate for a Labia Minora Reduction procedure?

Mr Marando will also discuss with you labiaplasty cost and will explain in detail aftercare and recovery period and what you can do to make your recovery as swift as possible.

The Procedure

A Labiaplasty involves shortening or reshaping of the labia lips to reduce the labia minora size. It is important that a surgery of this kind is performed by a experienced and respected surgeon such as Mr Marando. During the procedure any unwanted tissue is cut away using a scalpel or a laser, the loose edge is then stitched back up with fine, disposable stitches.

This procedure can be carried out using either a general anaesthetic or a local anaesthetic with sedation (twilight). The length of the operation is usually around one hour and usually requires a day stay, but in some cases may require an overnight stay in most cases. Every procedure carries some uncertainty and risks. Most common problems are bleeding or infection, and increased or decreased sensitivity in the area. In the hands of an experienced surgeon these risks can be minimised.

Recovery from a vaginoplasty takes a few days to recover from soreness. Temporary side effects may involve temporary swelling and soreness which can be controlled with over the counter pain killers and you will also receive a comprehensive care package from Mr Marando and his team to aid your recovery. As well as this you will have a follow up appointment to check on your recovery and make sure that there are no complications.

It is likely that after labia plastic surgery you will be back to work after a few days, and it is advised that you avoid physical exercise of the lower body for four weeks, and avoid upper body exercise for two weeks. You may experienced changed sensitivity to the area, but this is unlikely to be permanent.
