Lip Reduction Surgery

Lip reduction surgery is for both men and women who feel that their lips are a size which makes them feel self conscious or anxious. Both men who seek lip reduction and women who may feel uncomfortable about the size of their lips and will benefit from the lip reduction surgery to help boost self confidence and your overall appearance.

Introduction to Lip Reduction Surgery

But what is lip reduction? While most people long for a luscious pout, some lips can be too big to compliment your face, or the bottom lip may be droopy. Lip reduction surgery will reduce the size of your lips and can also help with droopy lips as these are also fairly common and can be helped by lip reduction surgery. This facial surgery is a great way to boost self confidence and help your lips compliment your face. Lip reduction surgery is a fairly common procedure and can be done as walk in surgery.

Who is the best candidate for a Lip Reduction procedure?

Your lips are something you can’t hide and can often completely change your face. Lip reduction is the best lip procedure for people who want to reduce their lips as the centerpiece of the face. Lip reduction provides improved, natural looking lips that will last for the rest of your life.

The Procedure

Mr Marando’s goal is to make your procedure as easy as comfortable as possible. Lip reduction can be done under general or local anaesthetic and the procedure usually takes around an hour. It is important for you to be healthy before this procedure in order for you to have the maximum healing capabilities during recovery

Mr Marando will make an incision inside your lip and remove small strips of skin to create a reduced lip appearance while keeping the natural shape of the lip. This also means that any scarring from the lip procedure is hidden within the lip, so the procedure is not obvious.

Lip reduction risks are fairly minimal, meaning that lip reduction is a safe procedure. These risks are something that Mr Marando will discuss with you during your consultation but may include:

  • Numbness of the lips after surgery, but in most cases is not permanent
  • Asymmetry or lumpy scar tissue
  • Hematoma (excessive bleeding under the skin)
  • Seroma (fluid building up under the skin

Fortunately these side effects are very rare, and while risks are always a consideration the likeliness of this should not affect your surgery.

Mr Marando will provide you with a full aftercare plan to aid your lip reduction recovery. It is important for you to rest after any surgery, and for this particular surgery you can assist the healing process by elevating your head at night by sleeping on two pillows for 7-14 days. Remember that swelling and bruising is normal after all surgery and it is important to be patient and wait for the bruising to go down completely, as it may be three months before bruising and swelling disappears completely and you see the true results of your lip reduction surgery.

Give yourself a week to rest before returning to your normal routine and it is advised to avoid contact sports for six weeks after your surgery. Mr Marando’s dedicated team will provide you with regular follow-ups and check-ins to make sure that your lip reduction recovery is going as expected.
