Approximately 30% of Mr. Marando's patients are men. Enlarged male breasts can be reduced by liposuction and/or by cutting out excess glandular tissue. This condition is far more common than many realize. Estimates of the number of men affected by gynecomastia vary widely (some estimates are as high as 40%). Although certain drugs (anabolic steroids, medications containing estrogen, alcohol, marijuana, etc.) and medical problems (cancer, impaired liver function, etc.) may cause or contribute to male breast enlargement, it is likely that a large percentage of cases stem from unknown sources.
Breast development either true breast tissue or fat deposition, is common during puberty in many boys. However, this physiological gynaecomastia resolves in the majority of young men. Approximately 10% of young men have persistence of the breast development, and this can cause significant psychological problems. Rarely, breast development results from tumors of the breast or abnormal hormonal production from other tumors. These will need to be excluded prior to any treatment for gynaecomastia.
The operation to correct the breast development will involve liposuction, surgery or a combination of both. The type of procedure required to achieve the best result will depend on the amount of fat deposit and breast tissue present. Rarely is it necessary to remove skin from the breast, therefore scarring should be minimal. A careful assessment will be required and the optimum treatment will be discussed at the time of your Consultation.
Mr. Marando will explain you the procedure in details, advise you and guide you in order to make the right choice.
