Brachioplasty Surgery

Brachioplasty is a form of body contouring surgery, and is also known as an ‘Arm Lift’ or ‘Arm Reduction’. As the name suggests, ‘Arm Reduction’ is a procedure used to remove excess skin on the upper arms, colloquially known as “bingo wings”.

Introduction to Brachioplasty Surgery

At the Star Clinic in Manchester, patients seeking Arm Reduction usually have large amounts of sagging or loose skin on their upper arms. Brachioplasty can also be combined with Liposuction if necessary in order to remove excess fat. However, as with Liposuction, Brachioplasty is not a substitute for weight loss, and the effects of the treatment may not last if weight is put on following its completion.

REALSELF reviews amended

Prior your Arm Reduction procedure, you will see Mr Andrea Marando for an initial consultation; this will be either in London or at The Star Clinic in Manchester. The purpose of your consultation is so that Mr Marando can assess your suitability for the procedure and provide you with the best possible treatment advice determined by your desires and needs.

It is important that you are honest and open during your consultation and if you have any questions or concerns at any stage then these will be discussed.

If you decide to go ahead and proceed with the procedure, you will always be invited to come back for a second consultation with Mr Marando, closer to the date of surgery.

Who is the best candidate for a Brachioplasty procedure?

It is very important to consult with a highly reputable and professional surgeon such as Mr Marando to ensure that you receive the best possible care.

Should you decide to proceed with the Brachioplasty after your initial consultation, you will be invited back for a second consultation closer to your surgery date. Mr Marando may ask you to make alterations to your lifestyle before and after surgery, such as your diet and exercise routine.

The Procedure

Brachioplasty is usually completed under general anaesthetic across a period of around 2 hours, but may take longer if it is performed in conjunction with other procedures. Mr Marando will begin by making an incision between your elbow and armpit; depending on your individual condition this incision could be minimal. Excess skin and fat is then removed before the remaining skin and tissue is lifted to create a tighter, smooth look to your arm.

Dressings are then applied and Mr Marando may insert some small tubes to drain away any blood or fluid from the area.

As with all cosmetic procedures, there are some risks involved. These will be discussed in detail during your consultation, but if you choose a capable and experienced surgeon such as Mr Marando, these risks are significantly minimised.

Immediately post procedure, bandages will be applied by Mr Marando for support. You are also likely to be given medication to assist with pain relief.

Recovery Timescale

Hospital stay – After undergoing an Arm Lift procedure, you are likely to stay in hospital for one or two days.

Back to work – You can usually return to work within one to two weeks post Brachioplasty.

Exercise – You will need to wear a support garment for the first few weeks post procedure, and should avoid any strenuous activity for up to six weeks.

Fading of scars – The fading of your scars will be the longest part of the recovery process. It can take any time from months up to a year for scars to fade post Brachioplasty.
